Abstract
This article offers an overview of the development of surgery in Kaunas between 1941–1998. It is the continuation of a previously published overview of the period 1919–1940. It describes surgery in Kaunas during the years of Nazi and Soviet occupations and after the restoration of Independence. The paper depicts an input of prominent surgeons such as J. Jaržemskas, A. Stropus, J. Jocius, T. Šiurkus and their successors who created and developed specialized surgery in Kaunas. It also presents the facts about scientific, academic, and treatment progress in the 2nd Department of Surgery in Kaunas.
